Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Paris on Sunday afternoon to demand an end to Israel's military operations in Gaza. They call on France to "demand an immediate ceasefire" as the war between Israel and the Hamas terror movement has entered its 16th day.

Several thousand demonstrators gathered in Paris on Sunday to demand an end to Israel's military operations in Gaza at the call of a collective including left-wing organizations, AFP reported. "Israel murderer, Macron complicit", "no peace without decolonisation": the participants of this rally organised on the Place de la République multiplied pro-Palestinian slogans on the occasion of this first Parisian demonstration not to have been initially banned by the Paris police prefecture.

The collective "For a just and lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis" at the initiative of the rally, unfurled a banner at the foot of the statue of the Republic, calling on France to "ask for an immediate ceasefire" and "stop the massacre in Gaza". "You don't have to be Palestinian to be affected by what's happening. For me, this kind of gathering is a sign of desperation," said Maya, a student who came to protest with friends and did not want to give her surname.

'Macron gives Israel a license to kill'

"The government has a role to play diplomatically. He must take a firmer stance and not act as support for Israel," she told AFP. "Macron gives Israel a license to kill," denounced the president of the Association France Palestine Solidarité (AFPS) Bertrand Heilbronn. Regarding the Hamas attacks of October 7, "the emotion is legitimate" but "its instrumentalization is criminal by serving to justify a war of elimination that the State of Israel is waging against the Palestinian people," he added.

The CGT, FSU, La France Insoumise, the Union syndicale Solidaires, the association France-Palestine-Solidarité, the MRAP, the collective of Muslims of France and the French Jewish Union for Peace are among the forty member organizations of the collective. More than 1,400 people have been killed in Israeli territory by Hamas men since October 7, the majority of them civilians who were shot, burned alive or killed from mutilation on the first day of the Palestinian Islamist movement's terror attack from Gaza, according to Israeli authorities.

In the Gaza Strip, more than 4,650 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed in retaliatory shelling by the Israeli army, according to Hamas' health ministry in Gaza.
