A total of 501 minors were sentenced with a final sentence for having committed a total of 636 sexual crimes in our country in 2022. This is revealed by the Statistics of Convicts published this morning by the INE and which confirms an upward trend in this case of infractions that have risen by 14% in the last year.
This is the highest figure since 2017 – the year in which they began to be counted – when 269 young people between 14 and 17 years old were convicted for a total of 609 crimes. Of the 636 crimes committed last year, 389 were for sexual abuse and assault of children under 16. Another 134 cases were for sexual abuse and 27 for sexual assault, of which four were rapes.
76% of the offences were committed by men, while 23% were carried out by women, and in most cases they were convicted of a single offence.
Andalusia was the autonomous community in which more people under 18 were sentenced, with a total of 104, followed by Catalonia, with 84 and Valencia, with 56. On the other hand, Cantabria, Navarra and La Rioja registered less than 5.
More sexual offences are recorded every year and occur in all age groups. In the case of adults, last year 3,201 were convicted for having committed 3,835 crimes. Of these, 762 were considered sexual abuse and assault of children under 16, 1,458 sexual abuse, and 462 sexual assault, of which 46 were considered rape.
