President Zelensky meets with President Biden

President Zelensky of Ukraine, who is visiting the United States, held a summit meeting with President Biden at the White House in Washington, D.C. on May 21.

President Biden emphasized his intention to continue to provide support, saying, "I support lasting peace that respects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

In response, President Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the support and stated, "I would like to have discussions that will benefit Ukraine and the world."

"ATACMS" is not included in US military support

A senior White House official said the company would provide additional bombs, including cluster munitions, which are highly lethal and can scatter many small bombs from a single bomb.

However, this military assistance did not include the ATACMS, a long-range surface-to-surface missile that Ukraine is strongly urging.

"President Biden is regularly discussing with the U.S. military, our European allies, and Ukraine what is needed on the battlefield at that moment, and what the U.S. can offer while maintaining its own defense and deterrence," Sullivan said at a press conference on March 1. I said.

He then stated, "Although we have decided not to provide ATACMS in a comprehensive manner, we have not ruled it out as an option in the future," and indicated that he would continue to consider the provision of ATACMS.

President Zelensky visits the US Congress "If we don't help, we will lose the war"

President Zelensky visited Congress ahead of his summit with President Biden and met with members of both the Democratic and Republican parties.

According to the lawmakers in attendance, at the meeting, President Zelensky said, "We will lose the war if we don't get support," and asked for more support from the United States.

President Zelensky's visit was greeted by the heads of both the Democratic and Republican parties in the Senate, impressing him with bipartisan support.

However, within the opposition Republican Party, conservative hardline members of the House of Representatives have raised negative voices, such as "unlimited support for Ukraine is not allowed."

The Biden administration has requested an additional budget of about 240 billion dollars, or about 3.5000 trillion yen in Japan yen, to the Federal Congress for emergency assistance to Ukraine, and President Zelensky seems to have directly aimed to call on lawmakers from both parties to continue support.

After a series of meetings, Zelensky told reporters, "We had a great dialogue."

As for aid to Ukraine, in a poll conducted by CNN TV and others in July, 7% of Republicans said Congress should not approve additional funding for aid, and as the war drags on, there is widespread reluctance to help.

Ukraine: 20,<> students to take "how to fly drones" in national defense education

The Ukrainian government provides national defense education mainly for 15- to 16-year-old students who teach them how to handle guns and life-saving measures, but we have decided to hold a new class for male students to learn how to operate drones.

Regarding the aim, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Stashkiv emphasized in an interview with NHK on the 21st, "Drones play an important role in Russia's war against Ukraine, and that is why it is important to learn about drones."

Initially, the plan was to start classes this month when the new school year begins, but due to the shortage of drones to use in classes and teachers with specialized knowledge, they would like to start classes in earnest by holding lectures for teachers.

It aims to have about 5,20 students take drone classes by May next year.

Mr. Stashkib emphasized the necessity of teaching about drones that can also be used as weapons, saying, "In Ukraine, where the war is continuing, students will go to war of their own volition in a few years after graduation."
