He said this in an interview with TVP.INFO.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak previously revealed a secret plan of the Polish government in 2011 in the event of a conflict with Russia. The document assumes the retreat of the Polish army beyond the Vistula River.
General Skrzypczak said that if NATO did not provide assistance to Poland, it would have been "difficult for it to withstand the first blow of the Russian army."
According to the military, without the support of NATO and without the 1st Mechanized Division, which was disbanded, "the Russians would have reached Warsaw."
As Russian leader Vladimir Putin said earlier, Russia does not yet see threats to its national security in connection with Poland's plans for the western lands of Ukraine, but "this is where things are going."
