Nanning, 9 Sep (ZXS) -- On 17 September, a side event on the theme of "Institutional Opening Up: A New Pattern of Regional Economic Development" sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce and the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was held in Nanning. The participants fully discussed the steady expansion of institutional open cooperation in regional rules, regulations, management, standards, commerce and other institutions in the new era, and promoted the construction of a new pattern of regional development and an open world economy.

Liu Ning, Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said at the meeting that in order to promote institutional opening-up, he hopes that all parties will work together to implement high-level international economic and trade rules, strengthen regulatory convergence, optimize management models, deepen standardization cooperation, build an international commercial guarantee mechanism, promote China and ASEAN to achieve a higher level of openness and cooperation on the basis of each other's largest trading partners, and inject new momentum and vitality into regional economic integration.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the China-ASEAN Expo. Over the past 20 years, economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN has achieved leapfrog development. At present, China is comprehensively promoting Chinese-style modernization, accelerating the construction of a new development pattern, and promoting high-level opening up with high-quality development, which will bring new opportunities for China-ASEAN opening up and cooperation.

"China will focus on steadily expanding institutional opening-up, deepening trade and investment cooperation with ASEAN, and jointly promoting regional economic integration, and strive to share the dividends of opening up with all parties." Li Fei, vice minister of the Ministry of Commerce of China, said that on the one hand, China will continue to increase the import of agricultural products from ASEAN, expand the scale of intermediate goods trade between the two sides, give play to the role of a new international land-sea trade channel, and the "two countries, two parks" economic and trade innovation and development demonstration park, and improve the level of two-way investment. On the other hand, China will strengthen policy docking and dialogue and exchanges with ASEAN, tap the potential of cooperation in green, low-carbon, digital economy and other fields, jointly maintain the security and stability of regional industrial chain and supply chain, and open up new space for economic and trade cooperation.

ASEAN Secretary-General Gao Jinhong affirmed the important achievements made by the China-ASEAN Expo in promoting and facilitating economic cooperation between ASEAN and China in trade, investment and tourism over the past 20 years, and appreciated the positive contributions made by the China-ASEAN Expo to promoting substantive economic cooperation between ASEAN and China. He hoped that ASEAN and China would remain committed to upholding a predictable, transparent, non-discriminatory, rule-based and open multilateral trading system.

On the same day, officials from China, ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste, heads of relevant international organizations and institutions, as well as industry experts and scholars and business representatives attended the meeting. The meeting aims to promote all parties in the region to benchmark the common rules of international trade and investment, build consensus on deepening institutional opening-up, continue to deepen the opening up and cooperation between China and ASEAN, and build a closer, safer and stable cross-border industrial chain and supply chain.

The opening ceremony of the "ASEAN Countries Standardization Cooperation and Exchange Center" was also held at the meeting. The center will be committed to strengthening standardization research and cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN countries, building a China-ASEAN standardization information interconnection and sharing channel, establishing a joint training and two-way exchange mechanism for international standardization talents, and promoting a wider scope, wider field and deeper open cooperation between China and ASEAN.
