Naval forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have detained two ships in the Persian Gulf. As reported by the Tasnim news agency, the ships are said to have smuggled 1.5 million liters of fuel under the flags of Panama and Tanzania. 37 crew members were arrested, it said.

In the past, there have been repeated incidents with oil tankers detained by the regime in Tehran. In July of this year, Iran reported the seizure of a ship that allegedly smuggled one million liters of fuel.

The Strait of Hormuz, a strait about 55 kilometers wide between Iran and Oman, is considered one of the most important shipping routes for global oil exports.
