President Biden of the United States and Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom met and agreed to strengthen economic security and promote cooperation on the safe use of AI = artificial intelligence, stating that they are "facing new challenges from authoritarian countries such as Russia and China."
President Biden and Prime Minister Sunak met at the White House on May 8 and confirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine, which continues to invade Russia, and agreed to the Atlantic Declaration, which includes cooperation in the economic field.
In the declaration, both countries recognized that "the stability of the international community is facing new challenges from authoritarian countries such as Russia and China."
In addition, in order to strengthen economic security, we will promote cooperation in the fields of cutting-edge technologies such as semiconductors, quantum technology, and AI, and build a supply network for important minerals that are essential for the production of electric vehicles.
At the press conference after the meeting, President Biden said, "We can lead the development of cutting-edge technologies that will shape the future and protect technologies that are so critical to national security."
"This partnership protects our citizens, and if the United States and the UK stand together, the world will be safer, better and more prosperous," Sunak stressed.
The Atlantic Declaration points out that AI in particular "has the potential to change society and the economy," and states that the first summit of major countries and companies will be held in the UK by the end of this year to discuss how to safely utilize AI.
