Washington, 6 Jun (ZXS) -- US President Joe Biden met with British Prime Minister Sunak at the White House on 9 June. After the meeting, the two sides issued the Atlantic Declaration, stating that the two countries will seek to establish a "new innovation partnership" to promote economic growth and competitiveness.

The two sides said that the Atlantic Declaration and its related action plan will establish a new and innovative partnership between the two countries in various fields such as economy, technology, commerce and trade. Focusing on the declaration, the United States and the United Kingdom will strengthen cooperation in five areas: key and emerging technologies, economic security and supply chain cooperation, digital transformation, clean energy, and defense.

A handful of key and emerging technologies are becoming the backbone of emerging industries and shaping the national security landscape, the manifesto said. The U.S. and UK will explore collaborative visions and promote joint research and development in the areas of quantum technologies, cutting-edge communications, synthetic biology, advanced semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

The two sides proposed that senior officials from the White House and 10 Downing Street meet every two years to promote and implement the Atlantic Declaration.

The White House said the meeting was Sunak's fourth meeting since he became prime minister in October 2022. In addition to economic issues, the Ukraine issue was also one of the key points of discussion at the meeting.

At a joint press conference after the meeting, the two sides were asked about the sustainability of US-UK security assistance to Ukraine. Biden said the goal of the United States and its allies is to ensure Ukraine's "long-term security" and that "we are advancing that goal by providing Ukraine with the support it needs now in the conflict and helping them build up its long-term military capabilities."

Sunak said that providing Ukraine with "support for a period of time and years to come" would send a strong signal that there is no point in trying to wait for the United States, Britain and its allies to withdraw. (End)
