American billionaire Elon Musk regained the title of the richest person in the world again this week, according to CNBC, after briefly losing it at the beginning of this year.

Musk lost the title to French rival Bernard Arnault, 73, whose vast majority of his fortune, currently $185.3 billion, comes from his stake in luxury goods company Louis Vuitton.

Twitter owner Musk's net worth is about $229 billion, 70 percent higher than when Tesla's stock hit a multi-year low in early January, with Musk's net worth falling below $140 billion at the time.

Tesla added $205 billion to its market value on Friday, with Tesla's stock hitting a new 8-month high and jumping 6% to $250.

The rise comes after Tesla announced its partnership with General Motors to provide Tesla's superfast charging stations for GM electric vehicles.

Tesla announced a similar partnership two weeks ago with the American car company Ford.
