On Friday, Turkish authorities seized one billion counterfeit dollars and revealed the nationalities of 6 people arrested during an operation targeting a warehouse in Istanbul.

Security sources told Anatolia that teams affiliated with the Gendarmerie Command received information about people printing counterfeit dollars and their willingness to transport them to African countries.

Teams carried out a direct intelligence follow-up operation and spotted suspicious movements of suspects in a warehouse in the Kagtkhana area, she said.

According to the sources, people were transporting large quantities of shipping parcels and boxes to the warehouse.

Gendarmerie teams stormed the warehouse and arrested 6 people for the flagrante delicto, including 3 Swedish nationals and the rest from Britain, Ghana and Turkey.

Authorities said the counterfeit $100 billion was in the $<> note, and that the group had already placed the cash in shipping boxes to be transported to Africa.

Teams also searched luxury villas rented by people in the Sisli area and seized a quantity of cash and jewellery.

The sources confirmed that this quantity of counterfeit money is the largest among the quantities seized in the history of the Turkish Republic.
