• Mossos Investigate another gang rape of a minor in Badalona
  • Events The impunity of the harassers pushes the family of the girl raped in Badalona to leave the city

The Mossos d'Esquadra have identified, so far, 21 adolescents involved in eight group sexual assaults committed in Badalona (Barcelona) during the last year. 20 of them are minors, 13 of whom are under 14 years of age, so they are not imputable.

This was explained this afternoon by the spokeswoman for the Catalan police, inspector Montserrat Escudé, who has detailed that four of those identified have participated in more than one of those eight aggressions counted between July 2022 and June 2023, in which all victims are under 18 years old. Even so, the police force of the Generalitat rules out that there is an organization behind these attacks: "The facts are heterogeneous and present different patterns and characteristics."

The Mossos consider these events "resolved", although in some cases investigations are open to determine the possible participation of more involved. Escudé has said that six of those identified have been arrested and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.

In none of the eight cases, all during daylight hours, have injuries been caused to victims requiring medical or surgical treatment. In three rapes, the assaulted shared an environment with the perpetrators and some were even their partners. In the other five events, there was no prior relationship.

Màgic Shopping Centre

After an extraordinary meeting at the police station in Granollers (Barcelona) to internally analyze the group rapes of minors in Badalona, the inspector has confirmed that three of the cases have occurred in the Màgic shopping center. For this reason, the Mossos have increased the presence of uniformed and plainclothes agents in the area. Another of the eight attacks was also committed in a leisure context.

Hours before the meeting of the Mossos, the City Council of Badalona has held an extraordinary plenary session to condemn the latest group sexual assault reported in the city, which occurred last Saturday in a field and with a 14-year-old girl as a victim. The Consistory will appear as a private accusation in this new case.

Also today, the municipal corporation badalonesa has held a meeting with several ministries of the Generalitat to address this serious social problem. The City Council has asked for an effort from the regional administration and has criticized the "scarce investment" it has made in recent years in Sant Roc and other neighborhoods in the south of the city, one of the areas with the lowest socioeconomic levels in Catalonia and where the alleged perpetrators of the eight sexual assaults would reside.
