At least seven people, including six young children, were injured Thursday, June 8 in a park in Annecy, Haute-Savoie, by a man who was arrested by the police, AFP learned from the prefecture and source close to the case.

The man, armed with a knife, attacked around 9:45 a.m. children aged about three who were in a park near Lake Annecy. Three of the victims have a life-threatening prognosis, a source close to the case added.

Immediately, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin posted a tweet: "Several people including children were injured by an individual armed with a knife in a square in Annecy. The individual was arrested thanks to the very rapid intervention of the police." Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced that she was visiting the site.

For their part, deputies and members of the government observed a minute of silence in the National Assembly. Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet invited to this minute of silence "for them, for their families", after this "extremely serious attack".
