South Korean President Yoon Sung-yeol reiterated his stance of strengthening cooperation with its ally, the United States, with North Korea, which continues to develop nuclear weapons and missiles, saying, "We will build an ironclad security system based on the ROK-US alliance that is stronger than before."

President Yoon Sung-nyeol gave a speech at a memorial ceremony held at the National Cemetery in Seoul on June 6, the day to commemorate the war dead and others who died in the Korean War.

Prior to his speech, President Yoon introduced that he had witnessed the burial of recently found remains of soldiers who died in the Korean War, and paid tribute to the war dead.

He also mentioned the strengthening of extended deterrence to protect North Korea, which continues to develop nuclear weapons and missiles, with deterrence, including U.S. nuclear forces, and stated, "The ROK-US alliance has now been elevated to a nuclear-based alliance."

He then stated, "We will build an ironclad security system based on the ROK-US alliance that is stronger than ever before to protect the lives and safety of the people," and reiterated his stance of strengthening cooperation with the United States.

As North Korea threatens to launch another failed military reconnaissance satellite on May 5, the U.S. and South Korean militaries remain vigilant against North Korea and have been conducting extensive firing drills throughout May and June.
