Europe 1 SEASON 2022 - 202310h55, 06 June 2023

In 1989 at Roland Garros, no one had seen this young American of Chinese origin arrive. At 17 years and 3 months, Michael Chang will nevertheless achieve one of the greatest feats of the tournament. In the 8th final, he beats, in a match that has become legendary, the world number 1 and great favorite, the Czechoslovak Ivan Lendl... Spoon service, remember? And he will go to the end by defeating in the final the Swede Stefan Edberg. Very religious, Chang always said that it was God who gave him the strength to win Roland Garros... but he had another reason to surpass himself: at the same time, 8000kms from the Porte d'Auteuil, Chinese government tanks entered Tiananmen Square.

Even today, Michael Chang is the youngest winner of a Grand Slam tournament.

Discover his story in "Le court sur la main", an episode to be found on all your listening platforms, but also on the Europe 1 website and app.
