United Nations, 6 Jun (ZXS) -- At an open meeting on the Central African issue held by the UN Security Council on 5 June, Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said in his speech that the frequent imposition of external interference and unilateral sanctions will not only fail to solve problems, but will intensify contradictions.

On the same day, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Africa, Abari, briefed that although Central African countries have made significant progress in promoting reconciliation and strengthening cooperation since December last year, the region still faces multiple problems and challenges, including an increase in piracy and the profound impact of the crisis in Ukraine and the armed conflict in Sudan, which has "devastating humanitarian consequences" for neighboring countries. He stressed that a purely military response could not address the root causes of insecurity in Central Africa.

Dai Bing said that the recent situation in many African countries shows that solutions must be found from within to solve African problems. The international community should respect the sovereignty and dominance of the countries concerned and provide positive energy for maintaining regional political stability. Frequent external interference and unilateral sanctions will not solve the problem, but will intensify contradictions. China hopes that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General will provide constructive support to the countries concerned in preparing for elections and conducting dialogue, in strict accordance with the mandate of the Security Council. China believes that the international community should objectively evaluate human rights work in light of the actual conditions of the countries concerned and the needs of the people concerned.

Dai Bing said that illegal armed groups, terrorism and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea are rampant in the region, and the situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and the spillover impact of turmoil in Sudan are worrying, aggravating the regional humanitarian and refugee crisis. China supports the Economic Community of Central African States in upholding the concept of common security and strengthening collective security cooperation. The international community should support the capacity building of counter-terrorism forces of regional countries, increase investment in maritime security issues in the Gulf of Guinea, and encourage regional countries to enhance mutual trust and eliminate differences.

Dai Bing pointed out that the recent adoption of irresponsible financial and monetary policies by major economies, the transfer of economic and financial risks to the outside world, and the periodic harvesting of the wealth of developing countries are the biggest external risk factors for developing countries such as Africa. Developed countries and international financial institutions should truly understand the difficulties of regional countries, honor their development assistance commitments, maintain humanitarian funding, help regional countries tide over difficulties, and support regional countries in enhancing their development resilience.

Dai Bing said that China is a good friend and partner of Central African countries and firmly supports the cause of regional peace and development. China is willing to work with the international community to increase its attention and investment in the region and provide more constructive support. (End)
