  • Exclusive The direction of Save me "propelled" an illegal investigation to 140 celebrities

Operation Deluxe has a lot – or everything – to do with the end of Save Me, scheduled for next Friday, June 23. A program that ceased to be funny when it was politicized, but especially when this newspaper published exclusively, now just a year ago, the plot of espionage on celebrities perpetrated on its set through one of its collaborators, the paparazzi Gustavo González, who obtained and filtered confidential information of current characters -at the request of the writing and the direction of the program- from the police databases through his friend the agent Ángel Fernández Hita, according to the summary to which we had access.

Five years have passed since the investigation began and the instruction is about to close, at least so intends the judge of the court number 4 of Madrid Marcelino Sexmero. However, the considered macro cause due to the number of injured is lengthening more than necessary for several reasons. At the last moment, more victims are appearing (among them, Kiko Rivera, after confirming the end of Save Me, in part his modus vivendi, or Mariló Montero, who in the end has not been considered harmed) and the judge accumulates on the table many procedures and resources.

In addition, the defendants themselves are the first interested in this delay because it could help them to lower the level of sentence. The first of them, Gustavo González himself who, as has been officially communicated to the Court by the Police, has refused to provide the police with hard drives to make a copy of the computer material that was seized at his home. Material with highly sensitive information, such as police records or fines of celebrities about whom he happily shared in Sálvame depending on the news, even other documentation that was not used in this Mediaset space but of intimate consideration, such as medical reports or private photos. "Hard drives, hard drives. Yes. Viagra for you. You're lazy, right? Well, viagra for you," Gustavo snapped at the police officer who called him a few weeks ago on the phone, the agent having previously been accredited. This attitude on the part of the paparazzi shows the tension in which it is knowing that next June 21 – two days just after the end of Save Me – the instruction could be closed and a trial date set, although there are authorized voices that point out that it will be extended again until December and it seems that it will be so.

Penalties of up to 9 years in prison

Normal these nerves on the part of the collaborator of Save me, who could face a penalty of up to 9 years in prison for alleged crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets with publicity, like his friend the police officer who accessed these databases illegally and on demand, says the summary. They are not the only defendants, although they are the ones facing the highest penalties. So are two more police officers, and La Fábrica de la Tele, producer of the program, as a legal entity, calling to testify those responsible, Óscar Cornejo and Adrián Madrid. The first has written opinion columns in several newspapers, including EL MUNDO, without mentioning the Deluxe plot but extolling the social value of his goose that lays the golden eggs for 14 years, Save me, which does not have bad audiences but to whom this investigation and the fall of advertisers has ended up taking its toll. That and the new direction taken by Mediaset after the departure of Vasile. Its current president and CEO, Borja Prado and Alessandro Salem, respectively, want a more familiar and white chain and there is no place for Sálvame in its most killer version or realities like Big Brother. Something that has become clear after the publication of its new and commented code of ethics or the subsequent additions inspired by the Carlota Prado case.

On the other hand, the information of El Confidencial about the intention on the part of Mediaset to dismiss Jorge Javier Vázquez has caused him a medical leave, although he still has two years of contract in the chain. Of course, of the staff of Sálvame there are those who will surely continue in Telecinco to not be imputed in the Deluxe, as is the case of Belén Esteban, among others.

As for La Fábrica de la Tele, experts point out that they could end up assuming the compensation of those injured in the plot that Gustavo could not face, since they correspond to subsidiary civil liability. Just this week the producer, 33% owned by Mediaset, has started an ERE although it hopes to relocate the dismissed in one of its other programs (Save me Deluxe ends on July 7): Everything is Lie, Socialite, Traveling with Chester and Focus.
