It was just before five o'clock on Sunday morning that a fire broke out in a property building in Bollnäs. At the scene, it turned out that it was a full-blown fire and police and emergency services evacuated the residents.

"There is a distinct smell of smoke and all the balcony doors are wide open to ventilate. One can assume that smoke has spread throughout the property, said SVT's reporter Malin Eirefelt, who was on site on Sunday.

A total of seven people were taken to hospital. The extent of the injuries to six of the people is still unclear, but at lunchtime it was confirmed that one person died from the injuries. Relatives have been notified.

Fire cause unknown

The fire was extinguished at half past eight and the cause of the fire will now be investigated. The police have launched a preliminary investigation into general negligence.

– We have employees on site and are currently investigating the need for evacuation apartments and creating a plan for the tenants who cannot move back to their homes, says Bollnäs bostäder's CEO Lars Åsberg in a press release.

Correction: An earlier version said that the fire broke out in a nursing home. According to the property owner, these should be ordinary homes.
