Units from Sweden, Finland, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States have gathered in Finland for the exercise.

About 750 people have been stationed from the Swedish Armed Forces and in addition to that, a couple of hundred Home Guard soldiers are guarding the border.

"Elite American forces help us become better, stronger and smarter. It has been very exciting to have them with us and to see how it can be done, says the Home Guard's Lisa Björk.

SVT follows and scouts in the air

The Home Guard operates not only on land but both at sea and in the air.

Thomas Jatko has been flying for twelve years and works as a flight instructor in civilian life. During the exercise, he has guarded the border at all hours of the day.

"It is a privilege to be part of the Home Guard. What we as pilots do feels important, but the total defense is also very interesting right now," he says.

In the clip, SVT gets to follow a tour of the training area in Kalix.
