Mahmoud Wahba, an Egyptian researcher at Al-Azhar University, died about two months after receiving his doctorate from inside the intensive care room of a hospital east of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The researcher's account on Facebook announced his death on Saturday, June 3, noting that funeral prayers will be held after afternoon prayers on Sunday, from Tawakkol Mosque in the city of Tanta, Gharbia Governorate, northern Egypt.

For its part, Al-Azhar University submitted the obituary of its assistant teacher at the Faculty of Commerce through a post of the Media Center on Facebook, and attached it to a prayer for the researcher.

The late researcher received a doctorate of philosophy degree in statistics from his sick bed, prompting platform users to celebrate him for insisting on his desire to teach and learn, despite his deteriorating health.

Wahba, a father of a 9-year-old girl, has been suffering from bone marrow cancer for more than two years, and in January this year he was transferred to the Arab Contractors Hospital (east of Cairo) after suffering from a rare disease.

On March 22, the discussion of the researcher's thesis was held in the presence of specialized doctors to follow up on his condition during the discussion due to the seriousness of his disease, and lasted for two hours, and the committee recommended granting him a global degree (PhD in Philosophy) in statistics.

At the time, Al-Azhar University announced that it would bear the expenses of the researcher's full treatment until his discharge from the hospital and his recovery, while there were demands at the time to transfer him for treatment abroad.

After his death, his students shared videos of his lectures in which he urged them to always perfume the remembrance of God and pray for the Prophet Muhammad.

Blogger Ahmed Zaki said that Wahba was honored by granting him a doctorate from inside the intensive care unit before his death, and continued in a blog post: "Goodbye Dr. Mahmoud Wahba, science from cradle to grave."

Abdul Rahman Salem wrote via Facebook: "The eye to tear and the heart to grieve and I parted you, Dr. Mahmoud for the sad and God did not know about you but all the best and I testify to God that you are loyal and loving to serve students, I ask God to make your work and your knowledge intercessor for you on the Day of Resurrection."

As for the commentator Ahmed Fawzi, he lamented his famous words and wrote via Facebook: "To the mercy of God, my dear beloved scientist and worker Mahmoud Wahba, the author of the famous saying to his students, "Pray for the Prophet many succeed and answer appreciation."
