A statement by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Palestine said that a delegation of the movement's leaders headed by the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, arrived in Cairo to discuss a number of political and field issues at the invitation of Egypt.

According to the statement, the movement's delegation, which arrived in Cairo on Saturday, included Saleh al-Arouri, deputy head of the political bureau, and Hamas head outside Palestine Khaled Meshaal, in addition to members of the political bureau Khalil al-Haya and Rawhi Mushtaha, and the delegation is scheduled to meet with Egyptian officials.

Earlier on Saturday, Islamic Jihad announced the arrival of its secretary-general, Ziad al-Nakhaleh, to Cairo to discuss Palestinian issues.

An informed Palestinian source told Anadolu Agency that Haniyeh received an official invitation to visit Egypt within days to discuss the Palestinian issue and issues related to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the reconciliation file.

Between May 9 and 13, Israel launched a military operation against Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, killing 11 members of the movement's leaders and members in the Strip, before ending with a ceasefire brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations.

On the other hand, Palestinian armed factions fired rockets at Israeli cities and towns, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, killing two people, according to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, citing the Israel Ambulance Service.
