The last diploma is presented – and then Joe Biden falls on stage. A moment of horror at the graduation ceremony at a military academy in Colorado.
A stumble that once again sparks the discussion about the age and fitness of the US president.
The White House spokesman quickly tweeted an all-clear that the president was doing well. There was a sandbag on the stage – he had probably stumbled over it.

After arriving in the capital, the 80-year-old had to be prepared for reporter questions about his health.

Joe Biden, U.S. President:
"I got sandbagged!"

A play on words that Biden had apparently prepared for this moment – flanked by a small bounce. Further questions were no longer allowed.
It was only in June last year that Biden caused a stir with a bicycle crash.

Doctors had declared him healthy and fit for service in February. With this certificate, he is entering the 2024 election campaign. His challenger Donald Trump was asked about Biden's latest mishap at a campaign event.

"Biden just fell on a stage."

Donald Trump, former US president:
"Really? He crashed on a stage? I hope he didn't hurt himself. The whole thing is crazy. You have to be very, very careful. Even if you have to tiptoe down the ramp."

Trump recalls his own appearance in June 2020. These pictures of a U.S. president who appeared to be active went through the press at the time. Something that obviously still bothers him today.

Donald Trump, former U.S. president:
"So I tripped down the ramp – and they beat me up for it. No one mentioned my speech. Intelligent people got it. But it's really unfortunate that he fell."

Trump himself will be 77 years old this month, he did not allow himself allusions to the age of his competitor. This time he left the malice to his son Donald Trump Jr. He tweeted:

"As much trouble as it is for Biden to stand in front of the cameras without falling, imagine how many times he fell down when the cameras weren't rolling!"

Until the US election in a year and a half, 80-year-old Joe Biden should avoid further shock moments in front of cameras if possible. Otherwise, he could also stumble politically.
