Contrary to the "repatriation offensive" announced by the traffic light government, the number of deportations is hardly increasing. This is evident from an internal list of federal authorities. According to the report, around 2023 migrants without the right to stay were deported in the first quarter of 3560. In the whole of the previous year, there were just under 13,000.

In the first three months, there were a relatively large number of deportations to Georgia (358), North Macedonia (276), Albania (218), Serbia (202) and Moldova (148). Comparatively few people were deported by the authorities to Iraq (27), Lebanon (17), Guinea (6) or India (6). There have been no repatriations to Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea for some time.

300,000 foreigners are obliged to leave the country – around 80 percent of them are tolerated

For the first time since the beginning of the war of aggression on Ukraine, however, two Russians were deported to their homeland, by flight over Belgrade without being accompanied by German officials. Currently, around 300,000 foreigners in Germany are obliged to leave the country, but around 80 percent of them are tolerated. 54,000 would have to leave the country immediately.

The coalition hopes for agreements with countries that are reluctant to take back their citizens. However, the government's special representative for such agreements, Joachim Stamp (FDP), dampens any prospect of quick success.
