A new Russian air strike on Kiev, where at least three people died, including a child, in an action that provoked terror in the Ukrainian capital after a week of bombing at the end of 463 days of war in Ukraine.

"In Desnianski district: three people were killed, including a child, and 10 people were injured, including a child. In Dniprovskyi district: two people wounded," the Kiev Military Administration reported.

Russian authorities are building morgues of more than 4,000 square meters in the Kursk and Rostov-on-Don regions, both bordering Ukraine, to deposit soldiers killed at the front there, Ukrainian military intelligence said.

Likewise, Russia has announced that it has begun to evacuate hundreds of children from the towns bordering Ukraine, target of intense bombing for days, from Belgorodov, and where the situation is "alarming" according to the Kremlin.

Tension as Germany closes four of five Russian consulates

Tensions with the West escalated on Wednesday when Germany announced a drastic reduction of Russian diplomatic staff on its soil, closing four of five consulates.

Moscow called the decision a "thoughtless provocation" and promised a "just response," AFP reports.

In Washington, the Pentagon announced a new $300 million weapons package, including air defense systems and tens of millions of rounds of ammunition.

Russia sees 'alarming situation' and evacuates children in border areas

Russia began on Wednesday to evacuate hundreds of children from towns bordering Ukraine, the target of intense bombing for days, and where the situation is "alarming" according to the Kremlin.

On Thursday at least two people were wounded in the Belgorod region in an attack blamed on Ukrainian forces, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram, AFP reports.

The governor announced on Wednesday the beginning of the evacuation of minors in two towns in the region, which received intense artillery and mortar fire.

"As of today we are evacuating our children from Shebekino and Graivoron districts," Gladkov said. "A first group of 300 children will be sent today to Voronej," a city located about 250 kilometers further northeast.

A journalist from the official Ria Novosti news agency near Voronej said buses with about 150 people on board arrived in the town.

Three killed in new airstrike on Kiev

Russia launched an airstrike on Kiev on Thursday, killing at least three people, including a child, in an action that sparked terror in the Ukrainian capital after a week of bombing, AFP reports.

Thursday's attack, which began around 03:00 local time (00 GMT) with cruise and ballistic missiles, left three dead and 00 wounded, according to authorities.

"In Desnianski district: three people were killed, including a child (born in 2012) and 10 people were injured, including a child. In Dniprovskyi district: two people injured," the Kiev Military Administration wrote on Telegram.

The administration had previously reported that two children had died, but later clarified that it was one.
