He recalled that Romania is a NATO member country, while Moldova is a neutral state.

"Purely militarily, I do not see the possibility of intervening in the event of a conflict, but we can help in improving personnel from Moldova, training them, helping with subsidies, as we have already done," RIA Novosti quoted Iohannis as saying.

So the Romanian leader answered the question about the possibility of providing Moldova with a "security umbrella" in the event of an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier it was reported about the start of large-scale multinational exercises Saber Guardian 23 in different regions of Romania.

In addition to the armed forces of the republic, military personnel from the United States, France, Italy, Poland, other NATO countries, as well as neighboring Moldova, participate in them.

According to experts, the exercises have an anti-Russian background and are aimed at drawing Chisinau into the military infrastructure of the North Atlantic Alliance.
