On his way out of Thursday's EPG summit in Moldova, Kristersson announces that he has been invited to personally attend the Turkish ceremony this weekend where President Edorgan will be sworn in:

We will return to that issue. We have received an invitation and we have a good plan.

In Moldova, Kristersson has also talked to NATO with the leaders of Great Britain, France and Germany.

"They are very explicit: they talk directly with President Erdogan. They are very clear that they want Sweden to become part of the alliance, both because it is a very troubled time in the world right now, but also because Sweden has a lot to contribute, says the Prime Minister.

Kristersson: "We have had contacts"

The re-elected Erdogan did not attend Thursday's EPG summit in Moldova. But there are still contacts between Sweden and Turkey.

"We have had contacts. I have congratulated, of course, the results of the elections and we have had contacts at official level, so we are ready to discuss with Turkey, on any day. And Turkey knows that," says Ulf Kristersson.

Stoltenberg to Ankara

NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg has also received a formal invitation to Ankara, he said at a press conference that concludes NATO's informal foreign ministers' meeting in Oslo. According to Stoltenberg, they are currently reviewing the practicalities in terms of exact dates.

"The plan is to go alone, but I am also sure that there will be other formats where Sweden's political leadership is involved," says the Secretary-General.

Jens Stoltenberg's announcement pleases Sweden's Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M), who is very positive about the visit.

"It is of course important and urgent that there are many contacts with Turkey and Hungary from NATO, and the secretary-general is the alliance's foremost representative, so it is very positive," he told Swedish Radio in Oslo.
