Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been imprisoned since January 2021. He was arrested just six months after being poisoned – something that the Russian intelligence service is accused of being behind.

In March 2022, Navalny was sentenced to nine extra years in prison on suspicion of corruption against the Russian state.

"Yesterday he was in solitary confinement and has received 3,828 pages of papers that are files of charge, crimes that he is alleged to have committed largely when he was already in prison," says Bert Sundström in Morgonstudion.

According to Bert Sundström, the prosecutor is asking for 30 years in prison for Navalny. He is accused of extremism and allegedly encouraging others to commit acts directed against the state.

"It's just deplorable all of it.

Bert Sundström has doubts about the previous verdict and believes that the Russian legal system cannot be trusted.

"Basically, the idea is that Navalny should be locked up.
