On Friday, the board of Skaraborg Hospital will take a position on a savings proposal that would, among other things, mean that emergency care will be closed down in Lidköping. But it cannot make decisions alone, but must consult with the region's health board.

As a countermove, Lidköping municipality has come up with the unique proposal that the municipality should step in and run the emergency hospital together with the region.

Starting a feasibility study

ON Wednesday afternoon, the city council decided to go ahead with this. A feasibility study will be started and the first step will be to make official contacts with the region about running emergency care together.

"It means that we can get peace of mind in this with our hospital that they want to keep it down constantly," says Ulrika Gartman Blom (M).

The model is Norrtälje Hospital where it takes place today. The region's initial reactions have been cautiously positive.

Large savings

In January, the management of Skaraborg Hospital explained that the four hospitals included (Skövde, Lidköping, Mariestad and Falköping) together need to save SEK 350 million in the coming year.

The hospitals in Mariestad and Falköping are losing out big on the savings proposal that is now on the hospital board's table. In Mariestad, all clinics are proposed to be removed, writes Mariestads-Tidningen and in Falköping, a number of receptions and activities disappear, according to Falköpings Tidning.
