It involves about ten major works and about 50 smaller ones on the Southern Main Line railway, which affects a distance of about 35 km between Norrköping and Hässleholm. Among other things, switches will be replaced, overhead contact lines will be equipped and equipment for communication upgraded.

For passengers, this means that several train routes, such as the one between Norrköping and Hässleholm, will be completely shut down at different periods during week 24.

– We hope that passengers will bear with this, says Jenny Nilsson, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, to TT.

Replacement services in the form of buses and replanned train routes will be put in place and it is already possible to book tickets according to the new routes, she announces.

"But to ensure times and replacement traffic at a detailed level, you should contact your train company," she says.

Avoid stops further ahead

Extensive railway work during the summer has attracted criticism from, for example, the Swedish Tourist Association, which has been forced to cancel planned events due to changed train services.

TT: Why so much work during a summer period when so many people travel?

"There is a pent-up need to renovate the railway. We try to carry out as much work as possible in a short time so that it disturbs less and in the long run results in fewer unplanned disruptions, says Jenny Nilsson.

Deferred work

At the same time, the Swedish Transport Administration has postponed some 50 maintenance work on the tracks this summer to create air in traffic planning.

TT: Can passengers expect to avoid so many train stops and changed times after this work?

"Since there is a pent-up need for maintenance of the railway, we will need more work in the plant. But we are doing what we can to reduce the overall traffic impact as much as possible," says Jenny Nilsson.
