– Summer is always a challenging period for the healthcare sector, but we have worked intensively to plan to keep as much as possible open based on the staffing situation we have, says Åsa Dedering, Director of Health and Medical Services.

Then the need for staff is greatest

New for the year is that the region analyzed the need for care beds as it looked week by week during the previous year, and based on that made an assessment of when the need will be greatest and when it will be easier to offer holidays.

The analysis shows the pressure looks set to peak in the first two weeks of July and the last week of the same month.

Rental staff needed

If the analysis of the need for hospital beds is successful, for example, planned surgeries will not have to decrease as much as in previous years – but temporary staff will still be needed.

However, the number of temporary staff will not be higher during the summer than during the normal season.

SEK 20,000 for a holiday week

All staff who sell holiday weeks to the region will receive compensation of SEK 20,000 per week and this means an increase for everyone.

However, buying vacation weeks from staff who have already worked hard does not see the regional management as a long-term solution to the difficulties of giving nursing staff holidays.

Everyone will be offered four weeks of continuous leave.
