What is Järvaveckan?

The purpose of Järvaveckan is described by the organizers as being about reducing the distance between the elected politicians and the citizens.

By inviting party leaders from all parliamentary parties and social actors from different industries, the aim is to increase the conditions for all citizens to engage in politics.

When and where will Järvaveckan 2023 take place?

The week runs between May 31 and June 3 at Spånga IP in northwestern Stockholm.

Why are Jimmie Åkesson (SD), Ebba Bush (KD) and Ulf Kristersson (M) not participating?

All parliamentary parties have been invited to give speeches. All are represented in the program, but three parties choose to send people other than the party leaders: the Sweden Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Moderates.

It was previously announced that party leader Jimmie Åkesson (SD) would speak during this year's Järvaveckan. But now the program is changed.

– We see it as an opportunity to front our group leader instead, says Oskar Cavalli-Björkman (SD), press officer.

The Moderates refer to foreign policy:

"As we are now entering the final stages of the Swedish presidency of the EU and are also in the middle of the ongoing NATO process, the Prime Minister is abroad or in other parts of the country for much of that week. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer will participate in Järvaveckan instead," the Prime Minister's press contact said in a statement.

The Christian Democrats do not state why party leader Ebba Busch refrains from participating, but writes the following to SVT:

"Jakob Forssmed will speak for the Christian Democrats. Based on his position as Minister for Social Affairs, Jakob Forssmed will highlight the work the Government is doing to achieve equal and good health. Jakob Forssmed, who lives in Stockholm County, last spoke at Järvaveckan in 2017.

SVT at Järvaveckan

The party leaders' speeches will not be broadcast live by SVT but will be available to watch the following day via Forum's broadcasts. Here you can see Forum's schedule (updated continuously).

You can also meet SVT at Järvaveckan, in our tent, on June 2 and 3.

Who started Järvaveckan?

The politicians' week at Spånga IP took place for the first time in 2016 and is an initiative by Ahmed Abdirahman through the non-profit association and later the foundation The Global Village, which Ahmed Abdirahman also founded. The organization is politically and religiously independent.
