• Politics The PSOE gives a truce to Sánchez because "it is better to go to general elections than to bleed" until December
  • Regional elections Otegi criticizes the staging of the PSOE against Bildu: "We have sustained the Government for four years. When did we stop taking people for dumb?"

The advance of the general elections, announced a day after the celebration of the municipal and regional elections, plagues the summer calendar of relevant political appointments at a time when many Spaniards will be on vacation. On May 30, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the decree calling the elections and dissolving the Cortes, which started the electoral period and opened the deadline to request the vote by mail and to request the vote from abroad. On May 31, the Cortes Generales were dissolved. June 9 is the deadline to communicate the coalitions, a relevant date before a possible agreement between the formations to the left of the PSOE.

On June 13, the parliaments born of 28-M begin to be constituted. The first will be the Madrid Assembly. A day later it is Murcia's turn; on the 16th, Navarra, with an eye on the interaction of Bildu and PSOE. A day later the City Councils of all Spain will be constituted. On June 22, the regional parliaments of Castilla-La Mancha, La Rioja and Cantabria will be formed. The next day, the Cortes of Aragon, the 26th, those of the Valencian Community and the 27th the Parliament of the Canary Islands. That same day the BOE will publish the candidacies of 23-J.

In the midst of frenzy will start the Spanish Presidency of the EU, just a week before the campaign begins, on the day of San Fermin.

The PSOE gives a truce to Sánchez because "it is better to go to general elections than to bleed" until December

With thousands of Spaniards out of their usual place of residence, July 13, the deadline for voting by mail, is important. The campaign will conclude on Friday, July 21 and will be followed, as always, by the day of reflection prior to election day, which for the first time will coincide with the hottest dates of the year.

On August 17, the Cortes Generales will be constituted. Before that day there will be intense negotiations between the parties that have achieved parliamentary representation to reach the constitution session with closed pacts that will be transferred to the distribution of positions at the table of the chamber and, predictably, to the investiture session. Already on the 17th the elected parliamentarians will take office and the members of the two Bureaus, including their presidents, will have to be voted.

Five days later the parliamentary groups will be constituted and, with this, a date will be set for the round of consultations at the Palacio de la Zarzuela so that the King listens to the leaders of the parties in order to entrust the investiture to the one who has the most support. There is no deadline for the investiture of the President of the Government, but it is not calculated before the end of August. If after two votes it fails, the deadline for a new electoral call begins to run from the first investiture vote.
