According to the US "Capitol Hill" report, on May 5, local time, Republican Representative Dan Bishop of North Carolina publicly stated at a press conference of the House Freedom Caucus that he would support the motion to remove House Speaker McCarthy, Bishop's statement was in response to the Republican McCarthy and Democratic President Biden reached a debt agreement.

At a press conference that day, members of the House Freedom Caucus expressed their dissatisfaction with the debt deal and urged other lawmakers to vote against, but Bishop is the first and currently only Republican to publicly say he will support removing McCarthy.

"I think it has to be done." Bishop told reporters. "I'm fed up with lies, I'm fed up with lack of courage and cowardice."

Referring to McCarthy's negotiations with the White House, Bishop said: "There are 222 Republicans in the House. No Republican lawmaker has done worse than he did. ”

Republican conservatives have reportedly been increasingly critical of the debt ceiling deal in recent days. The House Freedom Caucus and some other lawmakers were outraged by the debt deal reached last week and did not do more to cut spending and complained about huge loopholes in other provisions touted by Republican leadership.

McCarthy, however, ignored these criticisms from the party's conservatives. "I'm not sure what people care about in the debt agreement. The $2.1 trillion is the largest spending cut we've ever made. McCarthy told reporters.

However, members of the House Freedom Caucus said the agreement does not fully repeal the IRS appropriations approved last year, and that there are provisions in the agreement that can be waived. In addition, they accused McCarthy of misrepresenting the amount of spending cut by the agreement.

"The deal was a fuzzy math scam, a financial game, and they've been doing it for so many years." Texas Republican Representative Michael Claude said.

It was previously reported that after multiple rounds of negotiations, Biden and McCarthy reached a debt ceiling agreement in principle, but there is still uncertainty about whether the agreement can be passed in the House of Representatives.

According to CNN, on the evening of May 5, local time, the US House Rules Committee passed the bill for the debt agreement 30-7. The bill will be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives for a full vote on May 6, local time.
