"We do not defend institutions with unconstitutional bills. We do not lie to the French by carrying, with the greatest demagogy, a text that everyone here knows, full well, that it would be censored by the Constitutional Council if it reached the end of its parliamentary process, "said the Prime Minister during the session of questions to the government at the National Assembly.

Shortly after, Labour Minister Olivier Dussopt responded sharply to Charles de Courson (Liot), believing that with this text he "could never again come to this hemicycle and dutifully lecture on public finances".

"Mr. Deputy for Courson, how do you feel when the National Front and LFI rise up to support you in an admirable identity and extremist pincer?" he asked.

Declared "admissible" but subject to a lively debate on its constitutionality, the bill to repeal the postponement of the retirement age from 62 to 64 years was Tuesday at the heart of a showdown between the opposition and a presidential camp determined to prevent a vote in the National Assembly.
