According to Russian authorities, eight drones that were heading towards the central parts of Moscow were shot down and there are reports that as many as 30 drones have attacked the city.

"This is very extensive and perhaps shows the Russians that the war is now creeping closer to them," says SVT's foreign reporter and former Russia correspondent Bert Sundström.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. An adviser to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, on the other hand, has said it is looking at the events with satisfaction and expects to see more similar attacks.

Some speculate that it could be the Russians themselves who are behind the attacks to justify continued attacks on Ukraine. But that doesn't seem likely, according to Bert Sundström.

In the video, Bert Sundström explains why he does not believe it is a so-called "false flag operation", why the attacks are happening now and what consequences the morning's events may have.
