• Ukraine Ukraine says it shot down 58 of 59 drones launched by Russia in overnight attack

After 15 months since the start of the war in Ukraine, Russia has once again carried out a massive drone attack on Kiev. Ukrainian authorities have said they have repelled a new barrage of air raids, a day after facing the biggest drone attack since the start of the Russian invasion.

The local air defense managed to shoot down more than 40 drones and cruise missiles this morning and no casualties were recorded.

Meanwhile, the European Union described as "barbaric" the Russian attacks on Sunday in Kiev with drones and Friday on the clinic in Dnipro (central Ukraine), both with civilian casualties, and ratified the EU's commitment to help Ukraine "defend itself". "Russia's barbaric attacks continue, killing and terrorizing civilians: attack on hospital in Dnipro, now Kiev," European External Action Service (EEAS) spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said on her official Twitter account.

Kiev repels new airstrike a day after Russia's biggest bombardment

The Ukrainian capital of Kiev has repelled a new barrage of air raids this morning, a day after facing the largest drone attack since the start of the Russian invasion, officials said Monday.

Local air defense managed to shoot down more than 40 drones and cruise missiles on Sunday night and no casualties were reported, according to Ukrainian authorities. Kiev had been relatively little hit this year, but in May its residents have faced nighttime sirens and explosions almost every night. On Saturday night, Kiev suffered the biggest attack since the start of the invasion in February 2022, according to the Ukrainian government. On Sunday night there was a new wave of threats from the sky.

"It has only been 18 hours since the most massive (drone) attack on Kiev, and the enemy attacked the city again," the capital's military administration said. "This is already the 15th airstrike since the beginning of May," he added. He said drones and cruise missiles were used in the latest attack, and that "more than 40 aerial targets were detected and destroyed by the forces and means of our air defense."
