The man is also sentenced to pay the woman SEK 250,000 in damages.

It was at the end of January this year that the police received an alarm. Once on the scene, police found a woman badly stabbed in a snowdrift. She was taken to hospital where it was found that she had been stabbed at least 21 times, in the face, torso, arm and thigh.

A suspected perpetrator was arrested shortly thereafter nearby. A knife was recovered near the crime scene.

The arrested man was charged with attempted murder.

During the trial, he admitted stabbing the woman, but denied intending to kill her. The motive has been to establish his honour, the man stated during the district court hearings. The man and woman have previously been a couple.

Mapped women's habits

On the day in question, the man followed his ex-partner who was on his way to the bus. He made several threats that he would murder her, before attacking, pushing her into the snow and inflicting numerous stab wounds. This is what the woman told us during the trial.

It is established that the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and that the crime should therefore be classified as attempted murder, the district court states. In an overall assessment, the court finds that the man had the intention to kill the woman, among other things the act was planned by the man mapping the woman's habits, where the man followed the woman, attacked her from behind and in a place where there were few people in circulation.

'Senseless violence'

"It has been a question of almost senseless violence directed at a person who has been lying down and lacking the opportunity to defend himself," Östersund District Court writes in its ruling.

The court further notes that the man did not suffer from any serious mental disorder at the time of the act. The man is therefore sentenced to prison and the prison sentence is set at 14 years for attempted murder.
