Syrian actor and program director Osama al-Romani died – at dawn on Monday – of cardiac arrest, at the age of 81.

The Syrian Artists Syndicate mourned the Romanian in a Facebook post, saying, "The Syrian Arab Republic's Artists Syndicate mourns the death of fellow artist Osama al-Romani. To the soul of our deceased, mercy and tranquility, and to us, to you, his family and his loved ones, my sincere condolences, patience and solace."

Syrian artist Nadine Khoury expressed her sadness at the death of the Roman through a Facebook post, saying, "The respected and humble professor, brother and artist... We met in a lot of works, the last of which is Jam Al-Ezz, the news of your departure is sad and sudden."

For her part, Syrian artist Shukran Murtaja posted on her Facebook page a picture of her reunion with the late artist, saying, "Professor Osama will remain in memory. I was happy that you returned to Damascus after many years of estrangement. My condolences to his generous family and my condolences to our profession, which lost one of the great artists."

The company "Emar Al-Sham" for artistic production also mourned him in a Facebook post.

Osama al-Romani was born in Damascus on July 3, 1942, the younger brother of the late actor Hani al-Romani.

He began his artistic career in 1967 with the series "Al-Mayla Alley", then participated in the plays "Tishreen Village" in 1974 and "Ghoraba" in 1976, then traveled to Kuwait and participated in the production of the famous children's programs "Iftah Ya Simsim" and "Salamatak".

One of his most prominent roles in Syrian drama is the series "Hammam al-Qishani", in which he played the role of Colonel Adeeb Shishakli, in addition to many works.

Al-Romani was absent for many years from Syria and the artistic community to return to participate in important works that achieved views at the local and Arab levels, including "Autumn Omar, Karazon, Sabaya, Hawaziq, Kasr Adam".

The last appearance of the Romanian was during the month of last Ramadan through the character of Abu Alaa in the series "Jam Al-Ezz" and participated during the past year in the series "Alive in Love" alongside actor Duraid Lahham.
