According to her, it is better to give preference to plastic, not glass.

"Glass is more traumatic, and plastic today makes it possible to get a thin, high-quality lens. But, of course, it must contain the necessary ultraviolet filters that delay the wavelength, which in this place will be a damaging factor, "the expert of the Doctor TV channel explained.

For example, for an urban environment, these are glasses with one wavelength, protection from ultraviolet radiation, in the mountains it is a higher energy component, ultraviolet radiation of the short-wave spectrum, about 300-350 nanometers.

This, as the expert explained, is a more rigid component of ultraviolet radiation, so these lenses must necessarily contain such protection. If it is not, then plastic does not protect against ultraviolet light. And ordinary glass protects.

Therefore, people who use medical optics always have the problem of wearing sunglasses.

"For such patients, contact lenses are not a protective agent and are more risky. To do this, today there is laser vision correction, then a person will be able to use traditional sunglasses. After laser correction, medical glasses are no longer needed. In addition, different components of ultraviolet light penetrate to different depths," the expert noted.

She recalled that glasses are needed for both children and adults, and they should be selected in professional optics.
