Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his victory in the second round of presidential elections, which took place on May 28.

Recall that the incumbent head of the country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan (candidate from the Republican Alliance) and the candidate from the People's Alliance, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, took part in the second round.

According to Anadolu, after processing more than 99% of the ballots, Erdogan is gaining 52.07% of the vote, his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu - 47.93%.

Speaking to his supporters in Istanbul, Erdogan said the second round was over. According to the Turkish leader, it was a "celebration of democracy."

"The winners of the elections on both May 14 and May 28 are all 85 million Turkish citizens. I thank every citizen of Turkey for the opportunity to be at the helm of power in Turkey for another five years, "the agency quoted him as saying.

After the speech in Istanbul, Erdogan headed to Ankara. In the Turkish capital, he intends to visit the presidential palace and address the world community from there.

According to the Turkish leader, he has already been congratulated on his victory by the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, as well as Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent congratulations to Erdogan. He noted that the victory in the elections was a natural result of the work of the current head of the Turkish state.

"The victory in the elections was a natural result of your selfless work as head of the Republic of Turkey, a clear indication of the Turkish people's support for your efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and pursue an independent, independent foreign policy," Putin said.

The Russian leader reaffirmed Moscow's readiness to continue a constructive dialogue with Ankara on topical issues on the bilateral regional and international agenda.

Second round

The CEC of Turkey said that they did not register incidents that could affect the outcome of the second round of elections.

"The objections received by the CEC have been considered, and the answers have been sent to the regional election commissions," TASS quoted the head of the Turkish CEC, Ahmet Ener, as saying.

At the same time, the Istanbul Prosecutor General's Office reported that Turkish security agencies detained five people for distributing provocative messages on social networks about the course of the second round of the presidential election.

Initially, the CEC of Turkey imposed a ban on the publication of the results of the processing of ballots in the second round, but at 18:15 local time the ban was lifted.

According to Anadolu Agency, the number of voters in the country exceeds 60 million people. In Turkey, 191,08 ballot boxes operated in the second round of the presidential election. The polling stations opened at 00:17 local time and closed at 00:<>.

According to the agency, voting in the elections for Turkish citizens living abroad ended on May 24. About 73.3 million people voted in 5 countries.

The first round of the presidential election took place on May 14. Erdogan received the largest number of votes, with the support of 49.52% of voters, Kılıçdaroğlu won 44.88% of the vote.

5% of citizens voted for the candidate from the ATA alliance, Sinan Ogan, he called on supporters to support Erdogan's candidacy in the second round. The representative of the bloc of small parties, a former member of the Republican People's Party, Muharrem Ince, received 0.44%.

None of the candidates was able to overcome the 50% bar, and in accordance with Turkish law, a second round of presidential elections was announced.

Commenting on the preliminary results of the second round of the presidential election in Turkey, Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Konstantin Kosachev said that Turkish voters made a choice in favor of continuity.

"Apparently, in the choice between continuity and unpredictability, Turkish voters have a fairly confident majority and, last but not least, with a strong turnout, they preferred the former. Continuity is the word of the day. And this is important for the region, it is important for our country. And therefore, for the whole world," Kosachev wrote on Telegram.
