Birger Nordin is one of the founders of the trail and he is happy to see that many people still take part in it.

"It's unbelievable. You could never imagine that. The hope when we made the trail was that people would get out into nature, because many do not dare to go out into the forest, he says.

Climate discussion contributes to increased interest

The interest in hiking was something that increased during the pandemic, which was noticeable in the association that keeps after the trail.

– Many had nothing to do but hike, but even now after the pandemic, interest in hiking has increased further. People have probably discovered how amazing it is to be out in nature, but I also think it may be due to the discussion about how we can reduce our climate footprint. Hiking and not going so far from home is one way to do it, says chairman of the association Sörmlandsleden, Elisabeth Nilsson.
