  • Music Tina Turner, the eternal image of the rebellious woman who changed the history of rock

On the same day that Tina Turner married Ike Turner, he took her to a live show. With that unflattering business card could arise while they were married between 1962 and 1976. The relationship was a real ordeal plagued by physical and emotional abuse ranging from using his wife's nose as a punching bag to having sex as if they were rape. Tina, who died Wednesday at age 83 in Switzerland, had to wait until 1985 to find the man who made her discover the word happiness.

Tina arrived at Düsseldorf airport where she was picked up by a handsome EMI executive named Erwin Bach as the artist's representative had other commitments to attend to. There was something special between them since they first crossed their gazes. In the documentary about her life broadcast by HBO she said that "the day I met Erwin I must have been too tired from the flight and too worried about my concert tour. But I noticed him and immediately felt an emotional connection." Despite this feeling, when things got serious, Turner wasn't sure because of the age difference as she was 47 and he was 30.

Erwin dazzled the artist with her beauty and intelligence. As director and president of the record label EMI in Germany and Switzerland he has been the main catalyst for the careers of Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Queen, Pink Floyd and Tina Turner to settle definitively.

Born in Cologne in 1956, Erwin felt the call of music from his childhood. Not because of their voice, but with the intention of promoting artists. He prepared academically and began working in several record labels until EMI signed him for his great talent. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the queen of rock recalled what that meeting with Erwin was like: "He had big eyes. I got in the car with him and my heart was bu-boom, you know. My hands were sweating and I thought, 'Oh my God, this is love at first sight.'"

Since that meeting they became inseparable, but Tina did not give her arm to twist to marry. He proposed it to her on several occasions, but he always declined. Finally, after 28 years of relationship, the couple married civilly in Zurich in 2013 with 120 guests including David Bowie, Sade, Eros Ramazotti, Giorgio Armani and Oprah Winfrey. For the occasion, 70,000 red and yellow roses were brought from Holland and a fence with red tarps was built around the garden facing Lake Zurich to prevent the intrusion of the paparazzi, since the bride and groom had ceded the exclusive to Hello! magazine.

All attendees poured water on the couple's hands as a traditional Buddhist ritual. At Tina's request, women had to be dressed in white and beige, while men in the traditional tuxedo. The artist stood out with an Armani haute couture design in greenish tones. Bryan Adams performed All for Love as Turner and Bach walked down the aisle.

Tina always defined him as "her soul mate". Their love was so unwavering that Erwin did not hesitate to donate a kidney when the Goldeneye performer fell seriously ill. The last years were complicated by health issues of the artist who had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, attended dialysis, was hypertensive and had colon cancer.

At 67, Erwin has been heartbroken by the disappearance of the only great woman he has ever loved. Together they built a life project that materially translated into about 250 million dollars. According to Swiss law, he is entitled to half of the fortune, including real estate.
