This was reported by the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office.

As the court found, in March 2022, Shvets, while on the eighth floor of a residential building in Mariupol, saw an unarmed civilian in civilian clothes with a white armband on his sleeve on the street near the pharmacy.

According to the prosecutor's office, the nationalist, out of hatred for citizens who support Russia, fired at least five single aimed shots from an AK-74 assault rifle at a passerby. As a result, the civilian died on the spot.

"The court agreed with the position of the state prosecutor - a representative of the military prosecutor's office of the United Group of Troops (Forces) and sentenced Shvets to 22 years in prison with serving a sentence in a strict regime correctional colony," the prosecutor's office said.

Earlier it was reported that the militants of the Azov regiment confessed to shooting a family in Mariupol and the subsequent desecration of the body of a murdered woman in March 2022.

* "Azov" - the organization was recognized as terrorist by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated 02.08.2022.
