Russia has warned Ukraine that it will respond "very harshly" to future border incursions such as Monday's in Belgorod, which has exposed the lack of protection of Russia's border regions. The attack has been claimed by the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom Legion for Russia, made up of Russian "patriots" who fight alongside the Ukrainian Army in the war and whose purpose is to end the "regime" of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said Russia faces the dilemma of regrouping its troops to protect the border or continuing to send "all its forces" to the Ukrainian front.

The Ukrainian army claims to have repelled a new attack by Russian drones on Kiev

Kiev's military administration said Thursday that air defense has totally repelled a new "massive" Russian drone attack on the capital, the 12th so far in May.

Russia "attacked Kiev again by air," the head of the city's military administration, Sergi Popko, wrote on Telegram.

"According to preliminary information," Shahed-type drones were used in this "massive" attack, he added. "The enemy continues to use wave attack tactics, with intervals between groups of attack drones."

He welcomed the fact that "all moving air targets detected near Kiev were destroyed by our air defense."

The previous airstrike on Kiev occurred four days ago, said Popko, who counted 12 offensives on the capital so far in May.

Throughout the night, air alerts were activated in other cities, including Kharkiv (east) and Chernivsti (west), officials said.
