• Events Wave of robberies in Batán: assault two elderly women in the subways of the A-5 and rob a pharmacist with 2,000 euros in her bag
  • Events Hospitalized an elderly woman injured after being assaulted and robbed by a young man in the neighborhood of Batán

The assaults on women in the underpasses of Batán do not cease. Last Friday they robbed a woman and this Monday they snatched the purse of a 67-year-old woman. In addition, another woman was assaulted on Wednesday night in the same area of the Batán neighborhood when she was walking along Villagarcía Street. They also took her purse with various objects and her purse.

The National Police maintains a surveillance device in the area with plainclothes agents to try to stop the perpetrators of this wave of crimes in the pedestrian tunnels against older women who almost always come to make the purchase. It is suspected that the perpetrators of these misdeeds may be the same people who sometimes use a bicycle.

Last Friday, May 19, in the subway of Villamanín Street, a 60-year-old woman was assaulted by a man. It was 14:00 p.m. The thief grabbed her purse and threw her to the ground until she managed to take it away. The victim suffered several injuries, as confirmed by the Superior Police Headquarters of Madrid.

Also this past Monday, May 22, in the subway near number 222 of the Paseo de Extremadura, a 67-year-old woman was assaulted by a brown-skinned man. He snatched her purse and escaped. The woman, named Maria, told the concierge of her building yesterday: "It's the first time, and I hope the last, that this happens to me in the neighborhood. It is no longer safe to frequent certain areas, more vigilance would be needed." The victim could not recognize the aggressor, since he was wearing a cap that covered part of his face.

Also, last week several ores from the center of the Casa de Campo, dependent on the Community of Madrid, were transferred to the Latina police station after sneaking into the metro and throwing several objects and stones at the security guards of the underground. The perpetrators of the incidents were identified at the police station and returned to the Batán reception center for unaccompanied foreign minors (menas) in Casa de Campo. They were not arrested or acted upon.

The residents of the Batán area have been complaining about the problems of insecurity for three years. The protest began in 2020, the year in which crime in the Casa de Campo area increased by 611% with the opening of the ore center at the Richard Shcirrmann youth hostel. The residents issued a written statement from the Batán Casa de Campo Neighborhood Association, in which they denounced "the events of insecurity that were being experienced in the neighborhood and asked for the recovery of the shelter."

Subsequently, outside the Association, there have been three demonstrations in the Batán metro denouncing the insecurity of the area and asking the Community of Madrid to recover the Youth Hostel, the last being on February 19, where more than 400 people were concentrated before the slogan Let's recover the Hostel.
