A man with Diogenes syndrome of 48 years and about 250 kilos of weight has had to be rescued by the Firefighters of the Generalitat in his apartment in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona)

The man himself called about 8:30 am to the emergency phone 112 to warn that he could not leave home, as confirmed Thursday to EFE sources of the Firefighters of the Generalitat.

The firefighters displaced to the man's house, located in a basement, could not access through the door due to the large amount of garbage accumulated behind it. Finally, the rescue team opted to make a hole in the wall to be able to access the inside of the apartment.

Once inside the house, part of the accumulated garbage was removed in order to reach the man, who was evacuated through the hole previously made in the wall with a stretcher helped by a mechanical bull to be able to lower it to ground level.

The personnel of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) attended to the man, who was later transferred to Bellvitge Hospital.

After he was rescued in an operation that lasted hours, operators of the cleaning brigade of the City of El Prat stayed in the house to remove the accumulated garbage.
