Hong Kong, May 5 (Zhongxin Net) -- The inauguration ceremony of the first board of directors of the Federation of Shantou Community Organizations of Hong Kong was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on 25 May. More than 24 people from Shantou and Shantou attended the ceremony.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr John Lee, said in a video speech that Shantou is an important birthplace of Chaoshan culture and a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, and a large number of Shantou villagers have settled in Hong Kong, who have worked silently in all walks of life for many years, making great contributions to the development of Shantou and Hong Kong. Since its establishment, the Federation of Hong Kong Shantou Community Associations has contributed to the development of Shantou and Hong Kong, reflecting the feeling of caring for the family and country. He expressed his hope that in the future, the Association can work together with the HKSAR Government to improve the lives of Hong Kong's grassroots citizens and jointly safeguard social harmony and stability.

Wen Zhanbin, Secretary of the Shantou Municipal Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech, saying that Shantou and Hong Kong have deep ties and blood ties. Since the opening of Hong Kong, a large number of Chaoshan ancestors have come here to work hard, creating countless brilliant achievements and contributing strength and wisdom to the prosperity and development of Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Chaoshan villagers and associations have always shared the same fate with the country and are a bridge connecting Hong Kong and Shantou. It is hoped that the Federation of Hong Kong Shantou Community Associations will put the country first, take the family as the root and honesty as the priority, and continue to expand new space for cooperation and development between Shantou and Hong Kong.

In his speech, Gao Peixuan, chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Shantou Community Organizations, thanked the relevant parties in Shantou for their support. She said that the Federation will continue to use overseas Chinese as a bridge, play a role as a link, tell Chinese stories and Shantou stories well, and do a good job in writing articles about "overseas Chinese" in the new era.

The Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, Chan Kwok-kee, and the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, He Jing, served as officiating guests at the event.

Established in 2021, the Federation of Hong Kong Shantou Community Associations is composed of associations of hometown associations in various districts and counties of Shantou City and people from all walks of life in Shantou in Hong Kong. The Federation aims to build a platform for interconnection, consultation and co-construction between Shantou and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese, and to create a "home of Shantou people" in Hong Kong.
