The current commander of the Air Force, whose nomination to head all the armed forces must be validated by the Senate, is "a reckless leader and an unyielding patriot," said the US president at a ceremony in the gardens of the White House.

The highly experienced former pilot is also someone "who is not afraid to speak his mind," Biden added. The general, who calls himself "C.Q," was noticed during the "Black Lives Matter" protests against racism, in the wake of the death of George Floyd, which occurred exactly three years ago.

Diversity at the head of the American state

Charles Q. Brown had published a video in which he reported on the discrimination he himself suffered, including in the army. "It really needed guts, and it affected not only the military, but Americans across the country," Biden said.

This ceremony illustrated the diversity at the head of the American state, a principle dear to the 80-year-old Democrat. The US president was surrounded, in addition to C.Q. Brown, his Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, also African-American, and Vice President Kamala Harris, of Indian and Jamaican origin.
