At present, 14 people – most of them under the age of 20 – are in custody on suspicion of involvement in crimes that include attempted murder, preparation for murder, preparation for public destruction, aggravated weapons offences and aggravated narcotics offences.

According to intelligence information from the police to SVT, the planned serious violent crime is part of the struggle between two criminal networks for control of the drug market in northern Sweden in general and in the Sundsvall area in particular.

Strict secrecy still applies to the details of the investigation, but it is clear that of the 14 people detained, nine are suspected of either attempted murder and aiding and abetting attempted murder, or preparation for murder.

Resource-intensive

The preliminary investigation is to some extent intertwined with the investigation of the shooting in Bosvedjan in Sundsvall in December when one person was injured. The cases have been very time-consuming, resource- and staff-intensive.

"A total of 15 investigators have worked on these two cases in recent months, not including forensic scientists," says Josefine Perming Tengqvist, head of the police department for serious crimes in Västernorrland.

The preliminary investigation after the major crackdown is very extensive and currently amounts to around 10,000 pages.

"The investigation is in its final stages. A few supplementary interrogations remain, after which all the material will be compiled and in early June the preliminary investigation will be finally served on the suspects and their defence counsel," says Henrik Wallin.

See and hear him tell, among other things, about the suspects' willingness to tell in the interrogations.
