Any peace initiatives to resolve the situation in Ukraine, which provide for an equal dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, should be rejected, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the G7 summit in Japan.

"We all want an end to this war. Ukrainians want peace more than anyone else — but, of course, a just peace. Peace negotiations that equate the aggressor and the victim are unacceptable. We must facilitate President Zelensky's efforts to strengthen support for his 'peace formula,'" von der Leyen said.

She also spoke in favor of continuing to provide military and financial assistance to Kyiv.

"Now we need to provide Ukraine with the tools that will allow it to successfully defend itself and fully restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We must provide Ukraine with the necessary military and financial support. And we have to do it for as long as it takes," said the head of the EC.

The statement of the head of the European Commission was commented on by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. He noted that it is "difficult to disagree" with von der Leyen's words about the unacceptability of a dialogue on a parity basis between Moscow and Kiev.

"What kind of equal negotiations can there be with the Nazi state, which is in the half-life stage under external control? You can only talk to the owners. Or rather, only with Washington. There are simply no other interlocutors. And only about the conditions of the post-war world order. Although it's too early to talk about it," Medvedev stressed.

The meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven countries (USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan), as well as the EU leadership (represented by EC President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel) is taking place in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21. According to the Financial Times, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited G7 leaders to discuss the possibility of holding a summit to promote his "peace formula" presented in the fall of 2022, and without Russia's participation.

Fake formula

Recall that initially Zelensky outlined the theses of the "formula" in September 2022, speaking via video link at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. At the same time, this initiative did not imply any negotiations or the establishment of a ceasefire and included such items as "punishment for aggression", "protection of life", restoration of security and territorial integrity, provision of security guarantees, as well as "determination to defend oneself".

Already in November 2022, Zelensky at the G20 summit unveiled another "peace formula", which differed from the previous version. It already contained ten points, among which, in particular, the withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities, as well as the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He noted that the Kiev regime will not conclude new Minsk agreements with Moscow.

Moscow has repeatedly pointed out that the "formulas" proposed by Kiev are not a valid plan for a peaceful settlement of the situation and do not correspond to the current circumstances.

So, at the end of last year, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, noted that any proposals to end the conflict should take into account the new realities that have developed during the special operation.

"There can be no peace plan for Ukraine that does not take into account today's realities - with Russian territory, with the entry of four new regions into Russia. No plan that does not take into account these realities can claim to be peaceful," Peskov said.

Nevertheless, representatives of the Kiev regime continue to promote the "peace formula" in their official interaction with foreign diplomats. So, in March, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated the importance of this "formula" in a conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on this conversation, recalled the true essence of the proposals of the Kyiv regime.

"Zelensky's so-called peace formula has nothing to do with peace. This is nothing more than a set of ultimatums to our country divorced from reality. Among them are the withdrawal of troops from the Russian regions: the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions and even the Crimea, the payment of reparations and the surrender to international tribunals. The goal of the Ukrainian "formula" is to achieve Russia's surrender with the help of the West," Zakharova stressed.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also said that Kuleba did not invite the parties to sit down at the negotiating table, the organization of which is prohibited by law in Ukraine - by Zelensky's decree of September 30, 2022.

Figure of speech

Ursula von der Leyen's statements about the unacceptability of equal negotiations with Russia are intended to demonstrate a united front in supporting Kiev, said Vadim Kozyulin, head of the Center for Global Studies and International Relations of the Institute of International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Such harsh speeches are just one of the forms of support. They are trying to show those who are hesitant that the Western bloc is united. In fact, this is a figure of speech, which is mostly propaganda in nature, rather than the real position that the EU and the US intend to adhere to, "the analyst said in a conversation with RT.

However, more and more countries, such as China and Brazil, are offering their own peace plans, as they understand that a balanced approach is needed to resolve the conflict, Kozyulin stressed.

"In turn, politicians in the West are waiting for the results of the Ukrainian offensive. But everyone is gradually coming to the conclusion that the time is approaching to sit down at the negotiating table. Sanctions and other legal actions have gone so far that it will be necessary to restore the bridges burned by the West and start all over again, "the expert emphasized.

At the same time, the position that Dmitry Medvedev is talking about is also justified due to the degree of US involvement in the conflict, Kozyulin believes.

"Everyone understands that we need to negotiate. The question remains: with whom? Medvedev believes that with Washington. This position is understandable, because the United States stands behind Kyiv, and their strategy determines the strategy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In fact, he reminds that Ukraine is a puppet of the States, so you need to talk to those who pull the strings," the political scientist explained.

At the same time, Andrei Koshkin, an expert at the Association of Military Political Scientists, head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, in a conversation with RT, drew attention to the fact that the West positions itself as a force that is supposedly capable of resolving this crisis, but at the same time defiantly refuses to take into account the opinion of its direct participant - Russia.

"According to the Western bloc, everyone must comply with the rules that Brussels and Washington come up with. Ursula von der Leyen sings along with Washington and advocates Zelensky's "peace plan", which effectively excludes the possibility of peace talks. This is an inadequate proposal that Russia is not considering. Thus, we see only a reluctance to resolve the conflict and the decision to continue it at the behest of Washington in order to destroy Russia, "the expert explained.

He believes that in this context, the position of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Medvedev is completely justified.

"There is no point in negotiating with Kiev, which does not decide anything. They need to be carried out with Washington. In principle, in December 2021 and early 2022, Moscow offered to organize a dialogue on a stable world, but the United States refused to do so. Now, of course, after the completion of the NWO, Russia and the United States will have to talk about a global reorganization," Koshkin concluded.
