Hundreds of forest fires break out in Chile during February 2023. The country has been in megadrought for 13 years – and the increasing heat makes the country increasingly vulnerable to forest fires, according to the country's climate minister.
In neighbouring Peru, the problem was reversed. In March, a cyclone hit and large areas were hit by flooding.

And in southeastern Africa, Hurricane Freddy ravaged – costing the lives of at least 1,400 people.
Images from Fort Erie in Canada show houses frozen to ice in what is described as the worst snowstorm in 45 years. At least 38 people died in the Buffalo area alone.
